Firestorm Games Tabletop Sale Day
Written by MikeH, June 11, 2016, 4 Comments
Twice a year Firestorm Games (my much loved local gaming shop) holds a tabletop sale and demo day which is a day I always keep open in my diary. the idea is simple have a small bring and buy sale plus allow people to rent a table for the whole day to flog there stuff, also Firestorm get people along to run demo games for the public.
I was asked along to run some demo’s of Sharp Practice and I duly turned up at 10am ready to set up, my idea was simple, have a small area set aside to show the game mechanics and use the rest of the table to display a core force and some support options so people have an idea of the figure count needed for a game.
when I arrived the car park was full as was the gaming area, but I found my table and set up my display table
the rest of the day was a blur and I spent most of it chatting to people about the rules and generally having a look at the various table sales.
its at this point I need to make a confession as I might have brought 1 or 2 things, ok when I say one or 2 things I actually mean this lot:
The Otherworld figures came from Annie at Bad Squiddo Games and cost me a tenner, the 2 packs of Perry’s Cavalry I got for £5 each.
the rest came from that well known pusher of lead, Mr Jones (the chairman of the Cardiff Wargames club) and over many visits I came away with:
- 36 Portuguese Infantry (possibly Front Rank)
- 36 British Light Infantry (Perrys metal)
- 36 Highlanders (Vitrix)
- 13 95th Riflemen (Perrys plastics)
- 1 RHA limber (Perrys)
the total for this lot was £110 which is an absolute bargain, Mr Jones also had the Alban miniatures Sharp set which I might grab off him on Thursday (just to complete the set you know)
so thats sorted out my Peninsular army for Sharp Practice and also means I have most of the French side done as well. The Portuguese are painted but need a little work, but the Highlanders are fabulous and just need rebasing.
Mr Jones Junior, also had some 15mm Vietnam boats and helicopters which tempted me for another little project I’m considering
so all in all a fantastic day at Firestorm, with lots of interest in Sharp Practice and lots of new toys for me
Hi Mike
Enjoyed our chat about the rules. Obviously you’re a very persuasive man as several of us in Bridgend have invested in a set. I’d certainly like to take you up on your offer of a game whenever you’re available. I’m happy to meet up in Cardiff unless you feel up to putting on a demo at Bridgend club for those of us interested?
Anyway, glad your Highlanders are sorted!
Richard
Hi Richard
I’ll drop you a mail late and sort out a game, it’ll be great to meet up again
Cheers Mike. On a different matter, where did you buy your Americans for the 1812 war as, from what I’ve been reading, it sounds ideal for Sharp Practice.
Thanks
Richard
hi Richard
mine are all from Knuckleduster Miniatures (available from Caliver Books) or Brigade games (have to get these from America) see this post for details
