Double Sided Plush Mat from Cigar Box Battles

in Meeples and Miniatures podcast episode 221 Neil and myself interviewed Chris and Cory from Cigar Box battles about their company and the future plans they have.

it’s here if you want to listen

after the recording Chris and Cory offered to send over a couple of the double sided mats for us to review and a little while ago mine arrived so here are my carefully considered thoughts on the mat

WOW, JUST WOW THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING

ok, ok I’ve calmed down a bit

the mat I got has the Mixed Ground on one side and New Grasslands on the other and it is seriously good. the plush is about a mm deep and its hard to describe, except to say it is sort of like thick velvet curtains my Nan used to own. However unlike my Nans curtains these are not printed with 70’s designs and don’t smell of mothballs

they say a picture paints a thousand words so here’s some pictures I took of the mat

first up the Mixed Ground side

you can see how the plush texture catches the light and gives a really nice effect, next up a picture of the mat with some models on it

they sort of sink a bit into it which again is really pleasing to the eye

on the other side is the new Grassland design

its really interesting how the light catches the subtle colour changes on this mat

here’s a few close ups

and finally both sides of the mat

the mats are sold as 6×4+ which means they are bigger then a standard 6f x 4ft size I would put them nearer to 7×5 but don’t quote me on that.

Cigar Box are running a Kickstarter for these mats which I do recommend you take a look at if you are interested, Link Here

Thanks to Chris and Cory for there generosity in sending over the mat, I will make sure to use it as often as I can, not because it was free but because its lovely
